Miner's Tale Play
6:00 PM
The Forest City Area Historical Society hosted the dramatic reading of ‘A Miner's Tale’ written and read by Robert Hughes on Saturday, August 2, 2014 at 6 PM at the Society headquarters, corner of Main and Dundaff Streets. Mr. Hughes presented a forty minute one man play featuring several characters including an Italian immigrant mine worker trying to organize a union; a Slovak family raising seven children; a bachelor miner, who spends his free time at saloons; an Irish immigrant, who rejects work as a miner; and a mine owner, who believes he has been victimized by the union. This presentation gave the audience an opportunity to experience the trials and tribulations of the miners and is a tribute to the anthracite coalminers of Northeastern Pa.
